Bridges and Engineering Structures

Bridges and Engineering Structures

The team specializes in the assessment, reconstruction, and digitalization of bridges and complex engineering structures. The main focus is on transport infrastructure reliability and the development of innovations in bridge inspection, design, and certification.

We combine engineering practice with scientific research, enabling the implementation of advanced technologies in the construction and operation of bridges and other artificial structures.

Relevance for Ukraine and the world

The restoration of transport corridors destroyed or damaged by the aggressor is a key task for logistics, the economy, and national defense — alongside aligning Ukraine’s transport system with European standards within the EU integration process.

European Standards and Requirements

Ukraine is moving toward integration into the European transport system. This requires adopting modern approaches to bridge design and construction, using Eurocodes, and implementing transparent technical inspection procedures.

Corrosion and Durability Issues

More than 40% of bridges worldwide require repairs due to corrosion and wear. Scientific research on the physicochemical processes in concrete, reinforced concrete pipes, and metal structures allows the service life of such facilities to be extended severalfold.

Demand for Ukrainian Engineering Expertise

The shortage of engineering resources in the EU and globally creates opportunities for Ukrainian experts. We are ready to provide bridge and structure inspections, instrumental testing, project documentation, and infrastructure certification.

What does the focus area cover?

Diagnostics of artificial structures (bridges, overpasses, culverts) with technical condition assessment based on reliability criteria

Development of solutions to eliminate defects and restore the operational suitability of damaged structures

Instrumental testing of materials, welded joints, metal elements, and soils to determine strength parameters

Testing operational characteristics of materials based on samples

Modeling of bridge and engineering structures using modern digital tools

Development of infrastructure passports and support of reconstruction processes

Implementation of automated monitoring systems for assessing the condition of structures

Conducting scientific research on the development of the construction sector in Ukraine’s railway transport

Consulting on improving the reliability of engineering infrastructure under intensive operational conditions

The result is modern engineering solutions for restoring and operating bridges and structures that combine research, digital technologies, and practical experience.

Why Us

We combine UkrSURT’s strong scientific foundation, Algorithm Group’s hands-on implementation experience, and the deep expertise of our international partners.

Scientific School and Team

We operate based on the Departments of Structural Mechanics and Hydraulics and Building Materials, Structures and Facilities at UkrSURT. The team includes PhDs and Doctors of Technical Sciences who combine academic expertise with hands-on experience in bridge engineering.

Engineering Practice and Regulatory Framework

We focus our research on practical implementation and commercial outcomes. Our solutions meet industry needs and comply with EU standards.

International Integration

The use of digital technologies (BIM, automated monitoring systems) and compliance with European standards pave the way for integrating Ukrainian engineering teams into international projects.

In-house Laboratories

A wide network of in-house laboratories — both at the university and within the industrial sector — enables not only structural diagnostics but also materials research for implementing innovations in bridge engineering.
