This focus area specializes in the development, piloting, and scaling of circular economy technologies — from recycling construction waste, plastics, and lithium-ion batteries to creating solutions that enable the production of new products from secondary raw materials.
The industrial hub serves as a platform for testing solutions that promote resource reuse, minimize waste generation, and prepare technologies for large-scale deployment in the real sector.

The growing waste accumulation problem is a global challenge, and the circular economy is a worldwide priority. For Ukraine, it is particularly relevant during recovery and EU integration. Innovative recycling technologies are key to sustainable reconstruction, resource efficiency, and integration into the European economic space.
Reconstruction During and After the War
The reuse of construction materials significantly reduces costs and time, enabling a new recovery model — economical, sustainable, and resilient to the challenges of long-term reconstruction.
European Integration and Circular Transformation
Ukraine is implementing EU standards that require advanced waste management and environmental compliance. Recycling technologies based on LCA, Zero Waste, and EN-classification approaches are crucial for both businesses and the state.
Growing Interest in Ukrainian Engineering Solutions
EU countries are actively seeking partners in the circular technology sector — from pilot R&D to certified industrial lines. The availability of Ukrainian solutions adapted to EU standards enables cooperation with Europe’s private and municipal sectors.

Development of modular and pilot lines for recycling and sorting plastics such as PET, HDPE, LDPE, polystyrene, and polypropylene.

Development and testing of lithium-ion battery recycling technologies, including EV batteries.

Implementation of construction waste recycling technologies for concrete, brick, plaster, wood, glass, and metals.

Pilot testing of recycling solutions for organic waste, paper, electronics, and mixed municipal waste.

Establishment of industrial park infrastructure for pilot testing — including crushers, separators, flotation units, sorting tables, and secondary purification systems.

Implementation of circular solutions in transport infrastructure, construction, packaging, and other industries.

We combine UkrSURT’s strong scientific foundation, Algorithm Group’s practical implementation experience, and deep expertise from international partners.

Robust Scientific Foundation
The focus area builds on the expertise of researchers from the Institute of Ecology at V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University. It explores environmental safety, nature management, and sustainability, with an emphasis on organic waste recycling and nature-based solutions.

International Partners
We maintain partnerships with European leaders such as Remondis (one of the largest waste management and recycling operators) and CDE Global (a global leader in technologies for processing minerals, glass, and construction waste).

Infrastructure for Pilot Projects
We plan to establish a testing facility within the industrial hub to deploy pilot sites and laboratories for circular economy technology validation and further market-scale implementation.

Implementation Experience
Algorithm Group has hands-on experience in implementing recycling and material reuse processes in collaboration with municipalities, industrial enterprises, and developers.
